What?
Hokkaido Entrepreneurship Expo 2024 is a pitch event, shining a spotlight on the diversity and quality of the Hokkaido entrepreneurship ecosystem. The event will feature 24 early stage startups, pitching their companies to an audience of investors, media, community stakeholders, and other entrepreneurs.
The format
The event will contain 3 heats. Within each heat, 8 startups will pitch for 3 minutes - no more, and no less. The pitches will be in English, and structured to efficiently convey what the startup does, what they need, and why they are awesome. Between each heat, there will be a 15 minute break. After the end of the pithcing heats, the event will have a networking reception, where the audience and startups can get to mingle.
Startups - what you need to know
As a participating startup you will get to:
- Pitch your company for 3 minutes, on stage at Theatel Sapporo, to an audience of investors, media, community stakeholders, and other entrepreneurs.
- Network with the audience and other startups at the networking reception after the pitching heats.
What’s required of you:
- The pitch must be in English (the audience will largely be international).
- The pitch must be no longer than 3 minutes.
- You must be able to attend the event in person, at Theatel Sapporo, on the 31st of January 2024.
- You will be pitching with a physical microphone, controlling the slides with a clicker, with your being projected on a large screen behind you. You will be able to test the setup before the event. The clicker + handheld microphone setup can be a bit of a nuisance if you like gesticulating a lot, so please keep that in mind when preparing your pitch.
What’s optional:
- We offer you the chance to do a test run of your pitch, on the day of the event, 1 hour before the event starts, i.e., at 12:00. If selected to pitch, please let us know if you want to do a test run.
- We will send you a set of recommended pitch guidelines, based on the organizers’ experiences pitching to audiences, to help you prepare your pitch. They are merely suggested guidelines, and you are free to ignore them if you want to - after all, nobody knows your company better than you do!
Audience - what you need to know
As a member of the audience you will get to:
- Experience 24 pitches from early stage startups in Hokkaido, in a no-nonsense format. We promise a diverse and interesting lineup of startups, and the most efficient way to get an overview of our ecosystem!
- Network with the startups and other audience members at the networking reception after the pitching heats.
What’s required of you:
- Nothing! Just show up, enjoy the show, and find your next investment, collaboration, or inspiration!
Where and When?
The event will take place on the 31st of January 2024, at Theatel Sapporo in Susukino, during Hokkaido Innovation Week 2024. The event will run from 13:00 - 16:00, including a networking reception after the pitch heats.
Why?
The Hokkaido entrepreneurship ecosystem and community, is unlike any other ecosystems out there. This event aims to put a spotlight on the many startups and entrepreneurs in Hokkaido, and showcase the diversity and quality of the ecosystem, in a format designed to be efficient for both the startups and the audience: The startups get to introduce themselves and their needs to a relevant audience, the audience gets to efficiently see a wide array of startups from our ecosystem.
The event is organized by and for our incredible entrepreneurship community, with the hope of helping the ecosystem grow and thrive. Let’s keep pursuing crazy goals together, help each other succeed, and celebrate our wins together!
